So traumas and diseases have created a need for wheelchairs that extends back many years. Some commentators have even suggested that the oldest evidence of wheel chairs and dates from around 4000 BC, it is possible that the two were combined to make a chair with wheels up to six thousand years ago. The first clear of a wheelchair test, however, is of a recorded image in 525 AD Chinese.
Any subsequent history of the wheelchair is difficult to document until 1595. This was the year in which an artist drew a draft of the Spanish King Philip II of Spain (1527-1598), sitting on a chair that had small wheels mounted at end of each leg. The features of the chair included a raised platform leg of the King and an adjustable backrest.
