The lectern is a wooden support to sustain texts, called lectern when it is large and has four faces swiveling foot elevated.
In Christian churches is used since the early basilicas but just back issues are not preserved in the fifteenth century. The ancient stands often have the form of a gridiron resting on the back of an eagle metal or other equivalent figure. Using music stands on the altar began in the late fourteenth century because before that date the missal on a more or less ornate pad is held until the ninth century exercised this office hands acolytes to the missal and for leaflets and other objetos.1
Today, we find lecterns, manufactured in various materials and models, thus being made in materials such as wood or metal, acrylic, stone etc. A lectern today we can find, adjustable height and tilt to better read the texts placed on it. In addition to its routine use in liturgies, are used in all kinds of events, both political, sports, music, lectures and anywhere that requires a presentation or talk, either by a speaker or presenter.
